**This is my second attempt at creating a blog for this class, as my first one kept sending me error messages, not fun!**
My first entry will be about independence. This semester is going to bring a lot of new experiences, one of which is taking a class mostly on my own time. I'm very intimidated! I've always tried to be a good worker, but I've never done a class without the guidance of a teacher or professor over my shoulder. I'm lucky in that I do get to stop in the class once a week to touch base, but that feels like hardly enough time to say I'm "enrolled" in it! Oh well. I am going to work on not only becoming a better photographer, but a better adult. When I graduate, I will have to be an independent learner, so this is good practice!
One post I stumbled across this week on Pinterest was by National Geographic. It is a collection of tips on how to capture images of familiar places and people (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/122793527311436394/). Each blurb is only about one or two sentences long, but have precise and insightful suggestions on how to achieve the effect shown in pictures done by their incredible photographers. My favorite I included here, which is called "Bath Time" by Jennifer Parker. She advises photographers that "being in the right place at the right time and having close-up, intimate access to your family is what home photography is all about… seize the opportunities". The lighting, the framing of the portrait, and the incredible intimacy are very inspiring to me. I'm in love with the natural light in particular, it adds so much authenticity to the piece!
